Dear Purimgifts author
Jan. 3rd, 2021 04:10 pm Chag sameach! I'll try to keep this brief since the fics are supposed to be short, but here are some prompts should you want them!

Arthurian Mythology
My first introduction to these stories was from the movie Camelot, so ever since, I've loved the idea of this king trying to build a better world and system of government in a time and place where that was near-impossible. I'd happily read some stiff about his struggle with that, either gen or paired with anyone you want (except maybe Mordred.) Some other characters I like include Morgan (as an antihero with flexible loyalties), Gawain (as a genial weirdness magnet), Ragnelle (lady of riddles and equality!) and Lynette (world's first tsundere.) I'll take worldbuilding or character-focused stuff, and it can lead to tragedy or a happy ending.
Chronicles of Narnia
So this is an idea that recently occurred to me...what if the religious philosophy that underlay Narnia was Jewish? My father (a rabbi) always said that the description of Aslan as not safe but good was his favorite description of god, so I think there's room to play around there; the kids celebrate Hanukkah in a winter where the White Witch has forbidden it, Aslan rallies his followers to either fight the witch alongside him or carry on following his example after his sacrifice, etc. If that's too big a change for you to easily write, that's fine- just give me something focusing on Lucy and/or Susan learning to explore and rule Narnia. (I know Susan's rejection of Narnia at the end brings a whole load of problematic issues with it, but for a short fic I'd prefer if she were happy and Narnia was nice. Or you could rewrite the ending so she can have lipsticks and rationality and Narnia!)
Spinning Silver
Love this book so much! Where was it when I was an adolescent fantasy buff? I love Miryem's hardened practicality coupled with a kind heart, and I'd love to see her bringing more of that to the Kingdom of the Staryk. I also love her with the Staryk King, so you could show me some of their real courtship when he decides to do things properly, or them navigating their marriage, or learning to rule together. You could show me how Miryem continues to bring her religion and culture to such a strange land, as well as her pragmatic economic sense!
Gravity Falls
The kids are going to have their bar and bat mitzvahs soon! I bet that's going to be weird- what if the Multibear comes to the service? You could also give me some glimpses of future summers they spend with their Grunkles, going on monster-fighting trips around the globe with them! If you have any favorite cryptids or mythical creatures, they could be investigating them (either at home or in Gravity Falls), or they could run into something weird back home and use their newly acquired skills to deal with it. (How about a Golem? Are the twins strong enough to resist using it for their own benefit?)
English and Scottish Popular Ballads - Francis James Child
There are so many great female characters in these songs- Janet, the Elf Knight's bride, Jellon Grame's daughter, the Faerie Queen who enchanted Thomas the Rhymer, even the fickle wife of the house carpenter. I'd love fic that focused on them, either within their own narratives or crossing over into other ballads. And here's a somewhat darker prompt if you feel like tackling it- someone conducts a murder investigation to find out who really killed Little Lord Hugh and exonerate the falsely accused Jewish heiress. Nasty things happen in all these ballads, so you don't have to keep everything G-rated, but I'd prefer no super-downer endings.
The Frisco Kid
Love this movie so much! Avram and Tommy's relationship warms my heart, and you could write it as either romantic or a platonic-life-partners deal. (Maybe even involve Rosalie, she seemed nice.) You could give a scene from their journey or something after they settle in San Francisco and Avram has to learn how to lead a whole community. If you like western movies (old Hollywood, spaghetti, or modern) you could show them interacting with those situations and trying to deal with deadly situations in their own offbeat ways. Or just write something funny! That fits the spirit of the movie!
The Path
This game fascinates me because it doesn't feel like purposeless weirdness- I always feel like I can solve the mystery if I just look at it the right way! So show me your interpretations, either of the situation overall or any one girl's journey. If you go for a sexual interpretation of the wolves, that's fine, but in that case please write about one of the older girls! But of course, there are other interpretations, so if you want to make the wolves spirits or manifestations of the girls' own shadow selves, that could be very interesting
Robin Hood (All Media Types)
A hero for our time! All media types means all media types, so feel free to throw together elements from any version or adaptation- Child Ballads, Disney, Errol Flynn, Prince of Thieves, BBC, or even Men in Tights. For this exchange you could show some stuff from Marian's perspective- she can be a full-on action girl or simply a clever woman with many skills, a noblewoman or a shepherdess. Or if you want to focus on a Jewish character, there's always Rabbi Tuckman from Men in Tights! How would he fare in a more serious story?
Masque of the Red Death (1964)
Possibly my favorite Vincent Price movie and performance (the other possibility being Theater of Blood.) I love Francesca- she sticks to her principles and saves her lover, but she is tempted by Prospero's wicked philosophy and does feel some attraction towards him by the end. You could show more of her internal struggle, offer her a chance to save some more peoples' lives (either from the plague or the depredations of the court), or show her life after the movie. I would also greatly enjoy seeing what her religious debates with Prospero would have looked like if she'd been Jewish instead of Christian- Prospero abducted this girl from the Jewish quarter of the land, and finds that her beliefs fully encompass the idea that sometimes life is horrible and destructive...
Showing my hand as a cheesy goth here! Aurora seems so sweet and cute in this ballet, in love with a simple commoner boy but also intrigued by the appearance of a dark and mysterious suitor. You could show a romantic moment with either Leo or Caradoc, a look into some of the dreams she had while in her deathly sleep, her frantic attempts to escape from the vampire court, or her own life at the end as a happy vampire wife and mother. In any of these cases, how is she going to go from sheltered royalty to an entirely new world?
General DNWs: Pushing away female characters, fetish universes, character bashing, fully mundane AUs for fantastical settings, unrequested identity headcanons (though I may request/prompt some Jewish headcanons for this exchange!), abrupt character death (character death fully earned and explored is fine), a focus on bodily fluids or byproducts in porn, underage ships under 16.
